Strategic focus

atNorth will continue to shape a future where data centers contribute not only to digital transformation but also to nature restoration, community care, and sustainable economic growth.

We will continue to align our business to global sustainability objectives and take measured and considered steps to expand our strategic focus to go above and beyond with accountability, transparency and unwavering focus on sustainable business growth within the surrounding community and environment.

How will we achieve this?

Data center blueprint

atNorth is developing a blueprint for the future of our business and our surrounding environment. This blueprint will be our compass for becoming a sustainable and restorative business.

Green energy

atNorth’s sites in the Nordics are powered by low carbon and renewable energy sources. We prioritize energy management, monitoring real-time power usage, load forecasting and scheduling.

Sustainable framework

atNorth is currently developing a framework for nature and biodiversity restoration to deploy at all our Nordic sites. We are integrating sustainability and restorative elements into our processes from site selection and design to operational services.

Waste heat re-purposed

By feeding excess heat from our data centers into local heating networks, we can heat or power other facilities in the community. We have several partnerships in place to repurpose the excess heat from our mega campus sites for use in large scale greenhouses for vegetable production.

Empowering our team

atNorth is nothing without our committed and talented people. A safe and healthy workplace is fundamental to individual and business success – if people thrive at work, so too will atNorth. From onboarding, training and knowledge sharing session, to our annual company retreat, our people are the heart of our business.

“The two defining trends of our time — digitalization and sustainability — meet in the data center. Its where digital transformation meets the climate crisis head on. Every time consumers go online - whether to bank, shop or stream a TV series - a process starts in a data center. If this data center is power hungry, coal fired, energy inefficient and lets excess heat into the atmosphere - then we are all, as consumers, contributing to climate change, albeit most likely unknowingly.”

Frequently asked questions

How much focus is placed on sustainability within atNorth’s operations and processes?

atNorth remain committed to providing the most sustainable solutions, we maintain a culture of constant improvement at all sites old and new, and we drive continuous innovation that directly supports and aligns to our sustainability initiatives.

How does atNorth minimize the environmental impact of digitalization?

atNorth is strategically working to minimize the impact of digitalization on our planet. atNorth’s Nordic locations ensure that all our sites are powered renewable energy sources, and the cooler consistent climate enables us to support more efficient cooling requirements at our data centers in a sustainable manner.

Does atNorth’s use of Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) technology improve data center efficiency and performance?

all atNorth facilities will be liquid cooling ready. Direct liquid (DLC) cooling technology uses less water than air-cooled systems to keep servers cool because liquid is a more efficient circulator of heat. This combined approach of using DLC and warm water decreases the dependence on fans and expensive air handling systems to cool data center halls, which ultimately results in higher rack density, overall reduced power usage and significantly advanced performance.
