Goals and priorities

Sustainability and beyond – expanding our strategic frame and priorities. Developing and operating a sustainable business is crucial for atNorth – not just because we see business opportunities to differentiate and innovate but, given the state of the planetary boundaries and social foundations, we cannot accept doing anything less.

We will continue to align our business to global sustainability objectives and take the right steps to expand our strategic focus to go above and beyond sustainable business, which is what we outline in our 2024 Sustainability Report.

Strategic framework

True to our vision of ‘more compute for a better world, we are building on our existing sustainability strategy and aligning our business growth with sustainable and regenerative principles to not only reducing our environmental impact, but also actively contributing to a better world.

As such, we will apply the planetary boundaries and social foundations as the frame for our expanded strategy for sustainability and regeneration to guide our priorities and actions.

Our 2024 Sustainability Report provides an in-depth look at how atNorth is redefining the future of data centers.

Frequently asked questions

Do you use renewable energy to power your data centers?

atNorth’s Nordic locations ensure that all our sites are powered by renewable energy sources. Two-thirds of electricity produced in the Nordics comes from renewable resources and the entire region is on track to become fully carbon neutral by 2050, with some countries setting ambitious targets to achieve this by 2035.

Do you build your data center with sustainability in mind?

Across our sites, we prioritize the use and reuse of lower-carbon materials in our buildings, such as the use of glulam, a natural alternative to steel or concrete. Glulam is made with wood from sustainable forests where the manufacture, distribution and treatment all consume less energy than other building materials.
