atNorth appoints new ESG Manager

Jul 20, 2022
atNorth has announced that Ásdís Ólafsdóttir will fulfill the vital role of Environmental, Social and Governance Manager for the sustainably focused pan-Nordic company

atNorth, a leading Pan-Nordic data center operator, today announced the appointment of Ásdís Ólafsdóttir as ESG Manager.

In this increasingly vital role, Ásdís will create and execute the vision and direction of atNorth’s ESG policy, including all environment and sustainable working practices. Ásdís will lead on the execution and implementation of all ESG initiatives, collaborating with key stakeholders, management teams and employees across atNorth’s data center locations in Iceland and Sweden, to align activity and ensure the company’s vision continues to progress in the right direction.

atNorth is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards. Since the company’s inception, it has designed their data centers from the ground up so that its team can offer the best energy efficiency, using the least amount of equipment, ensuring the safe operation of the data center, and therefore lowering the carbon footprint of its data centers.

atNorth applies circular principles to everything that the company does wherever possible. For example, its newest datacenter site in Stockholm operates on energy from renewable sources and uses efficient heat recovery for both air cooled and liquid cooled IT infrastructures. This allows all the residual heat from the data center to be recycled through Stockholm Exergi, Stockholm’s energy company, where the excess heat generated from the new data center can then heat up to 20,000 apartments.

Ásdís has considerable knowledge and experience in ESG standards and policies, combined with a real passion and interest in environmental issues,” said Eva Sóley Guðbjörnsdóttir, atNorth Deputy CEO. This ethos directly aligns with atNorth’s core values, and we are delighted to welcome her to the team as we continue to increase our efforts to creating an even more sustainable and environmentally-responsible business.”

Having graduated as a Biologist from the University of Iceland in 2011, Ásdís began her career teaching at Preliminary University studies for adults at Keilir. She then started a role as a Project Manager within the University of Iceland and Keilir’s Technology department as a project manager. Following her main interest in the biosphere and nature, Ásdís went back to university to study for a Master’s Degree in Biology in 2019.

I am very excited about joining the atNorth team,” Ásdís commented. The company is a disruptive force in the data center market and Nordic region, where it is redefining the standard of care for sustainable IT business practices. With sustainability at its core and a part of each team member’s DNA, I feel empowered to help atNorth’s business grow and am looking forward to being part of an innovative and forward-thinking company.”

Since 2017, Ásdís has worked for Isavia, within the environmental department based at Keflavík International Airport in Iceland. She worked on projects including the implementation of green steps processes, green accounting, alongside implementing and maintaining ISO standards (45001 and 14001) for the company.
