atNorth’s SWE01 data center opening in Stockholm

March 10^th saw the official inauguration of atNorth​’s newest data center, SWE01, the first and largest data center in Sweden specifically designed for high density workloads, such as advanced calculations for AI, simulations, and risk analysis. The event was held at the company’s new data center campus located in Stockholm Data Parks in Kista, Stockholm. 

In attendance were hand picked industry guests, some of atNorth’s valued customers as well as friends and partners, who were invited to join them for an evening of celebration with food, drinks and tours of the new facility. 

The celebration began with welcome drinks followed by the official inaugural ceremony in the main data hall. atNorth’s CEO, Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson was first on stage and gave an excellent speech in Swedish, much to the delight of the (mainly Swedish) attendees. He thanked atNorth’s partners in the project, that helped construct the company’s first data center outside of Iceland, quickly and efficiently, despite the ongoing global pandemic. 

The second and last speech was made by Anders Egelrud, CEO of Stockholm Exergi who expressed how proud he was of the project and the great cooperation between atNorth and Stockholm Exergi. 

The main attraction of the evening was of course the ​“official” launch, where guests were asked to join in a countdown that ended with atNorth’s CTO, Benedikt Gröndal and Anders Egelrud, pressing the launch button, that started up the cooling machines while The Rolling Stones famous ​“Start Me Up” was playing. Finally, the guests were invited on guided tours of the facility whilst others enjoyed food and drinks all the while networking on site.
